Your Ovulation Calendar And A Bad Cold

May 3, 2012.

When my husband and I began trying for our first child using my ovulation calendar, I began to wonder, does having a bad cold affect the timing of your ovulation that month? The reason I was wondering this was because I had looked up my fertility calculation for that cycle, but I was also in the midst of a really bad cold which was causing me to feel terrible. I was curious to find out whether or not the symptoms of a head cold would cause a woman to possibly ovulate later than expected.

My hubby and I were desperate to become pregnant and had been trying for several months but had not been able to conceive yet. I really wanted it to happen this month because if it did, then it would mean our baby would be born in October and I felt that was the perfect month to have a baby.

So I went online and did some research. I found out that travel to different time zones can affect ovulations, but I could not find much of anything in terms of information on whether a common cold does anything to alter the timing of the release of a woman’s egg each month. Feeling like I hit a dead end, I called my gynecologist searching for answers. She was not able to tell me for sure one way or the other, but just suggested that we have intercourse every other day from the day my monthly period ended until the end of that cycle. She said it would take stamina and determination, but if we were really diligent, we could do it and it probably would result in a pregnancy. Well, she was correct because two months later I was feeling the early signs of pregnancy and we sent her flowers to thank her for her help.
