The average medical assistant salary rate increases as he or she becomes more highly qualified and more skilled. This is why proper training and certification is the best move if you intend to make a career out of being a medical assistant.
It used to be that medical assistants only needed a high school diploma and got trained on the job. But more and more employers prefer medical assistants that have at least a year of formal education. You can opt for 1-year diplomas or certificates, or 2-year associate degrees that you can get from medical assistant schools, vocational schools, or community colleges. Meanwhile, you can gain experience by volunteering while you are studying, or by taking internship programs at the end of the course. The classes that you will most likely be taking are anatomy and physiology, transcription, medical terminology, laboratory techniques, pharmaceuticals, and other medical essentials, as well as book keeping, keyboarding, accounting, and other clerical functions.
You should also consider earning certifications to further your credentials. Get yourself certified and check with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) to know more about their certified medical assistant exam. And when you pass the exam and become a certified medical assistant (CMA), you should maintain it by taking education credits every 5 years. You can also choose to become a registered medical assistant (RMA) instead by checking with the Association of Medical Technologists (AMT) for certification exams. Any of these two options are valuable if you would like to increase your chances of a higher salary rate or better employment opportunities.
With the demand in medical professionals increasing by the minute, a career as a medical assistant can give you a very high likelihood of getting hired within the next couple of years. The medical field is a growing industry and the opportunity for medical assistants is growing as well.
