credit: Dave_B_Haad Salad beach is located in the north west of the Thai island of Koh Phangan. Despite being one of the most beautiful areas of Koh Phangan it remains a quiet area that is not overwhelmed with tourism.
This makes Haad Salad an ideal destination for those looking for a Thai beach holiday that offers good facilities but without the irritation of noisy parties at night.
Koh Phangan has an almost schizophrenic character. It is both the party center of Thailand (with Asia’s biggest beach party) as well as a new chic destination for those who are seeking unspoiled beach locations and luxury resorts. Whereas Haad Rin and Ban Tai cater to the former category, places like Thong Nai Pan Noi cater to the high end tourists.
Haad Salad eludes both categories. It has its share of mid-range resorts but they don’t offer 5 star facilities and certainly don’t charge as much as Rasananda on Thong Nai Pan. Moreover, the beach has a few bars and nightspots but the nightlife is very laid back and not obtrusive. The most famous spot for a drink is the Haad Salad Reggae Bar. The peaceful tunes of Bob Marley are favored to the repetitive beats of trance and techno.
The beach at Haad Salad consists of fine white sand. It is a large bay with plenty of accommodation on the beach. Just off the coast is a series of corals that provide great diving and snorkeling opportunities. For those keen on seeing marine life, next to Haad Salad is the beach Haad Mae Haad which has the small island and sand bar of Koh Ma, Koh Phangan’s only marine park.
Haad Salad has a great atmosphere and just the right level of development. It is a great spot for those looking for a good self-contained beach. There’s plenty to do in the vicinity – diving, snorkeling, visiting waterfalls and wake boarding. And best of all Haad Salad has its own unique character.
