Security light

In today’s age, a good quality security light is important. The question is – can landscape lighting and security lighting be combined?  Landscape lighting is used more for aesthetics while a security light is chosen because it needs to light up a particularly dark area.

Generally a security light is fitted in driveways or above garages and the light then emits a flood of light, allowing the visitor or the homeowner to clearly see the surrounds. Landscaping lighting on the other hand is more low key lighting and used simply to add a touch of color the garden, or used to make the garden look more appealing at night.

A good idea is to choose a security light which is fitted with a motion sensor.  If motion is detected by the light’s sensor the security light will switch on automatically. If the homeowner is concerned that the bright light from the security light will have a negative impact on their dim landscape lights, this may be a good choice. If the property is relatively, small it may be an option to use a light for both security and landscaping purposes. As long as the security light is able to provide enough light to increase the visibility of an area, it is effective.  If security is not a major concern, a few landscape lights may be the answer, however if the area is considered to be a high risk area, a bright security light which emits a flood of light is a must. Landscape lighting will give any home charm but a good quality security light will enhance the safety of the home occupants.

A security light will serve as a deterrent and a wise, would be-thief will think wise about breaking into a house which is well lit. Motion sensors and light sensors will allow the security light to turn on or off automatically and this will give the impression that the home is occupied.  Since the security light fixture is designed for outdoor applications, the fixtures are weather resistant and as such will not rust or corrode.
