We all have lived in apartments or homes that were too small at some point, and it’s usually because of money issues. It’s just too expensive to live in an apartment that can fit all of our stuff comfortably – right?
Well, sometimes that is the case, but we can also get creative and proactively find extra room by working a little harder at it. Space is a luxury in a small home, which means it requires a little more effort than it does in larger homes. Here are a few ideas on finding that extra space for your place.
The best thing to do is to try and get double use out of the same space, and this is done by using storage containers that will also decorate the room they’re in. This can be something like an antique trunk that adds a theme and decor to a room, or it can be plastic storage drawers that you’ve either painted or decorated with decoupage. Either of these options will really help you maximize the use of your home space, and should be put into effect right away.
Another option is to use vacuum storage bags. These bags can be vacuum sealed once you fill them up, and if you’re putting small piles of clothing into each bag, you can easily reduce the space they use by 40% or more. The bags themselves are usually fairly cheap too – making it an easy way to reduce the clutter you already have.
Finally, if you’re looking for new furniture, get furniture that works with you, rather than against you. Think about TV stands with closeable cabinets and drawers, or couches and dressers with room underneath for things. Every little bit of space you can squeeze out of your home will add up, so don’t be afraid to think like this.
Whether you decide to buy decorative storage boxes or rearrange what you already have, if you put in the work you’ll probably be able to find some extra space in your home. It will be well worth it.
