How to Sell Scrap Gold

May 3, 2012.

If you have gold or wholesale jewelry to sell you will be looking for a good price.  In order to get the best jewelry and scrap gold prices there are a few things that you should know.

Firstly when it comes to gold you need to understand that scrap gold means the minimum value that gold should be sold for.  A jewelry item that is considered to be “scrap” is an item that is no longer needed, wanted or it is broken.  If a piece of gold has gems in it, they should be removed.  Most buyers only deal with gold.  This means that if a piece of gold jewelry has gems in it, you could get a lower price for the item.  Keep in mind that if the piece has traditional valuable gems inserted into it, you may be able to get a good price for the jewelry as is.  Once the gems have been removed, you can sell them to a separate gem dealer.

Once you have found a legitimate buyer for your gold, you will need to take your scrap metal into the store.  The average buyer will want to see the items in person so that they can weigh it and assess the quality of the product.  Some mail in companies will allow you to send the scraps to them and they will then offer you a price.  If you are not happy with the price that they give you, they will then send the items back.  It is important that you keep up to date with the current market price for gold.  Note that this pricing changes twice every day.  If you do this you will not be taken advantage of by a dealer.

Selling gold scraps is an excellent way to get some extra cash.  You can use it to purchase new jewelry or any other item that you wish to purchase.
